Item Description
Large 18-3/8x18.5x1.25" deep cardboard box w/wonderfully illustrated main panel showing Superman about to land on warplane that is shooting at him. Box contains Milton Bradley game No. 4857. Box bears no copyright, but this is obviously a licensed item as produced by a major manufacturer. Box shows moderate wear w/three missing inner flaps, 1.25" flap tear and 1x2" area of surface paper lift at top center of main panel. Evenly aged w/some scattered dust soiling, bottom flap and bottom edge of main panel has some scattered surface paper flaking. VG overall. Box contains 18x18" double-sided target w/brass grommet at top center for hanging. One side features generic target image while reverse features large full body image of Superman at center, surrounded by 15 different warplanes, several of which are firing at him. Three pin holes at bottom center. Generic side of target has moderate moisture staining to margins and Superman side has obvious aging and margin/edge wear. The Superman image is less aged. VG overall. A war years toy, but we believe this game was never put into mass production, accounting for its extreme rarity. We know of only one other boxed example (w/generic gun and rubber-tipped darts) and one loose target. A truly special piece of Superman merchandise and a must for any serious Superman collector. First we've offered in our 48 years. Franco Toscanini Collection.
