Geppi's Entertainment Auctions brings you another weekly sales list from Hake's Americana. For a few decades, the pin-back button was cutting edge technology. From 1896 into the 1930s, particularly in the marketplace for consumer staples like foods and drinks, the button helped a product distinguish itself. Whether worn by sales reps at industry trade shows, by the local grocer behind his counter or handed out as a give-away to the collecting public, the button was designed to grab attention by its graphic appeal.
The artists who created these colorful and appealing visual gems toiled anonymously for button manufacturers, but thankfully the quality of their work was appreciated and preserved so that collectors today may still enjoy their creativity. Some of the highlights of this list are the Black Diamond Pepsin Gum clicker, the Coca Cola metal pencil Sharpener, and the "Drink Milk" sharpener.
