Item Description
Painted plaster w/6" dia. base and height of 6.25" to the top of Mickey's nose (10.25" to the top of socket). Great image of Mickey relaxing, seated in an armchair and holding onto a book w/incised "Mickey Mouse - © Walt Disney Enterprises" text on front cover. c. 1936 by Soreng-Manegold Co. of Chicago. Complete w/original thin glossy cardboard shade which has bottom dia. of 9" and height of 5.5". Inner wire of shade is loose but could be easily reattached. Shade has a total of five different images of Mickey showing the progression of his day; going to school, playing baseball, eating, writing letters and finally going to bed (w/his pants hung over bedpost and shoes under the bed). Shade has moderate all-over aging and 4.25" tear/puncture w/scattered stress creases. Additional 1.5" hairline tear at Mickey going to school image. All images display well w/strong color. VG. Underside of lamp is missing felt covering. Has been rewired and works. Lamp itself has small scattered paint flakes most noticeable on Mickey's ears, nose and shoes. Even aging and scattered dust soiling. One ear has neat repair to break, hairline only shows when viewed closely. Appearance remains Fine. A classic and desirable Mickey item further enhanced w/the inclusion of the extremely rare shade. Our last example (w/shade) sold for $2,783. From the Michael J. Stern Collection.
