Item Description
9x12" hardcover w/120 pages. "Chieftain 1942" yearbook for University High School, West Los Angeles, CA. This is Marilyn Monroe's (real name Norma Jean Mortenson, though her mother quickly had it changed to Norma Baker) Junior yearbook. Monroe is featured once, in a tiny school portrait within. While living w/her mother's friend Grace at the young age of 15, Marilyn met Jim Dougherty. When Grace and her husband could no longer support her, they encouraged her to marry Dougherty, which she did in 1942, leaving high school to do so. It was just two short years later that she was discovered while inspecting parachutes in a factory. This led to modeling, acting and singing classes, and she cut, straightened, and lightened her strawberry blonde hair. The rest is history. Covers show scattered wear w/moderate corner tip wear. Fine. Interior pages have typical inked inscriptions and are VF. This is certainly among her first published photos, and years before the world came to know her as Marilyn Monroe.
