1940s. 25" tall painted molded rubber composition figure depicts "Esquire" magazine's 1940s mascot "Esky" wearing fedora and w/his arm raised. Figure stands on plaster-filled base. As indicated by hole in raised hand, figure originally held a sign, though this is no longer present. Most likely used in men's department of department/specialty store. Figure has a 1" dia. hole as made on back and appears to be for installing device that would be hooked up to Esky's open mouth, making it appear as if he was smoking. Tape residue around hole and 1/8" flake to paint off lower lip. .25" paint flake off shoulder and scattered paint wear to hand. Scattered aging and craze lines. Fine overall. This is the first we have offered of this style as opposed to the more commonly seen display figure of this size. Wonderful expression.
