Item Description
11” tall with beautiful celluloid hanger encased in brass and with the dates 1877/1897. Brass rims and rivets hold a pair of celluloid covered portraits each 1.75” with Hayes at the top and McKinley below. The text below Hayes lists 5 men “Mustered In, 11 June, 1861.” These men are Col. Rosecrans, Lieut. Col. Stanley Matthews, Maj. Rutherford B. Hayes, Surgeon Joseph Webb, and “William McKinley, Jr. Private Company E, Aged 18 years.” Below the McKinley portrait is text “Mustered Out, 26 July, 1865.” The men listed here are Col. Comley, Lieut. Col. Hastings, Maj. Thompson, Surgeon Webb, and “William McKinley, Jr., Capt. Co. G, Brevet Maj. U.S. Volunteers, 24th President Of The United States.” It’s very likely this ribbon badge was used at McKinley’s inauguration in 1897. A couple of light crease lines on the fabric but totally clean. Bit of darker tone on the celluloid bar is as printed. Only example we’ve seen. Sen. Charles Dick Collection. See previous and following items.
