Item Description
1-1/16” diameter domed on the front and flat on the reverse. Center holds .5” brass rimmed ferrotype of him in military uniform with his name across the upper body. The vegetable ivory is accented by a circle of circular designs while on the outer edge are carved semi-circular accents each with a tiny circular hole at its center. These carved accents are complete. Due to the natural shrinkage of the substance there are eight very tiny hairlines around the circumference of the brass rim. Six of these are essentially microscopic while one shows as a 1/16” line and another on the left side shows as a hairline .25” crack. The back of the piece has a small hole at center for a cord no longer present. Around this hole there is a slight convex area .25” in dia. but this appears to be as made. The piece still displays beautifully. Unlisted in Hake and DeWitt/Sullivan.
