Item Description
Hand engraved 32mm (1.25") with gold gilt wash on the front and complete with original shank on the reverse. This example is very different from the usual designs featuring an eagle. Most of those have an estoile (single star) above the eagle's head, whereas this is one of a very few examples to have a full glory. The glory features 13 dots to represent the 13 colonies with zigzag accent line and further accent of 17 arrows-like lines extending from the peaks and valleys. On most of the estoile style eagle's, the eagles left talon holds three arrows, whereas on this there is four. There are five leaf clusters on the branch in the right talon. The eagle's wings are divided into six vertical feathered segments and there are six vertical lines on the chest shield. Around the perimeter are 82 tiny accent punch marks. A gorgeous original state NM example with unique engraved design.
