Item Description
Large and impressive prints feature art by German artist Walter Gotschke and were created c.1976 in celebration of the 40th Jubilee anniversary of the first Volkswagen prototype. Each is in archival mat mounted on foam core w/16.5x23.5” w/year in ten year increments, showing the development of Volkswagen models from 1936 to 1976. Includes - 1936 shows the villa of Ferdinand Porsche in Stuttgart and he is shown w/other men w/three prototype cars including convertible; 1946 shows Ivan Hirst, the British major who was responsible for the Volkswagen factories during the British occupation (1945-1949). The war-damaged Wolfsburg factory can be seen in the bkg.; 1956 shows busy Stuttgart street w/Karmann Ghia and Volkswagen Type 1 and Type 2; 1966 shows American freeway w/dune buggy; and 1976 shows German countryside w/Polo and a Scirocco. All are NM. These prints were given to top VW dealerships in the country. Large and impressive.
