Dec. 22,1966. 3.5x5-7/8” Aerogramme envelope hand addressed to Jan Wahl c/o Garth Williams in Guanajuato, Mexico unfolds to 7-1/8x12” full page written in ink. Letter mentions Strauss opera “Frau”, illustrator Uri working on Wahl’s “The Wonderful Kite”, Wahl’s “Carrot Nose”, his mother near death from cancer, and doing a re-write on “Higglety Pigglety Pop ! Or There Must Be More To Life . From Mother Goose As You Might Guess”. Maurice asks Wahl to “Say Hello To Garth For Me & Tell Him I’ve Long Desired A Williams Sketch”. He mentions his love of Winsor McCay, and closes “All My Best Jan For A Great New Everything & Write Soon Again. Yours Maurice”. A few lt. creases, otherwise Exc. “Higglety Pigglety Pop” was published shortly after this letter was written. Noted children’s book illustrator Garth Williams did the the art for “Charlotte’s Web”, Stuart Little”, and others including Wahl’s “Push Kitty” for Harper’s.
