Item Description
c. 1930s original 5.5x7.25x3.75" deep thin cardboard box has choice graphics on five of six sides including bill poster, music hall w/sign out front for Ham and Sam show, and scene on top of audience watching them perform. Box has one flap detached but included, moderate corner wear, lt. color rubs to edges. 2.25" tear to bottom panel. Still clean and tight. Fine overall. Piano has attached figures of 6" tall seated black man and 7.5" tall black man dancing w/banjo. All are tin litho. Toy is lithographed on both sides and front of piano and all sides of chair w/images of male/female minstrels. Toy works well and one figure dances and moves his banjo around while seated figure's chair moves up and down, causing hands to move around on keyboard. Music lithographed on front of piano above keyboard is "Dixie Blues." Wear to toy mostly where parts move including lower legs of banjo player and where hands touch banjo top and bottom, piano player has most wear on sides of coat where he goes up and down in the chair. Piano itself has few scattered paint nicks. Fine. A nice, displayable example of this classic toy.
