7.5x9-5/8" glossy shows 15 member team lined up in uniforms standing on field in front of bleachers. Photo has ink text at upper right corner “Spokane, Wash. July 4, 1935" and photographers name at lower left “C. Pibby ‘35". Players last names are neatly written in fountain pen ink below their images. Includes: Brewer, Manager Crawford, Young, Kransow, Madison, Cooper, Brown, Beverly, Taylor, Rogan, Allen, Maywether, Dwight, Joseph, Milton. Blank reverse side has a few ink notes. Photo has lt. handling creases though most are just visible in reflected light, lower right side has 3/8" margin edge tear but photo is overall clean, glossy and VF. Bullet Joe Rogan joined the Kansas City Monarchs in 1920, the inaugural season of the Negro National League. He was a pitcher and outfielder and during the first Negro League World Series in 1924 he posted three complete games. He was a player and then manager with the Monarchs until 1937. He was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1998. Second baseman Newt Allen began his Negro League career with the Kansas City Monarchs in 1922 and stayed with them off and on until 1948. He became their manager in 1941, the same year the team won the Negro American League Championship. A wonderful sharp image. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake’s COA.
