Item Description
17.25x21.5" artboard has India ink original art image area w/Felix in all but one of the 12 panels for March 24, 1935 Sunday page in which Felix is depicted falling into a giant's pipe in first two panels, only to have his tail catch fire. As can be expected, he runs in a panic until extinguishing his tail w/large seltzer bottle. The giant, who is playing his violin, hears the hiss of Felix's tail being extinguished and thinks someone is hissing at his performance, causing him to run to investigate w/studded club in hand. Felix grabs the pipe and empties it, lathering up large bar of soap and making large bubble w/pipe. Felix then enters said bubble and floats away from giant towards safety, stating "Safe! If I Don't Get A Blowout - I Hope." Original art is by Otto Messmer, who created Felix the Cat for the Pat Sullivan animation studio in 1919. Complete w/King Features Syndicate copyright paste-over at bottom of second-to-last panel. Artboard has some lt. aging at margins and bottom left/right margins have printer centering labels. Art area remains clean and would display Exc. if matted and framed. One of the nicest "Felix The Cat" Sunday page originals we've ever seen, w/the added bonus of being from the 1930s, this original art is superb in every way.
