Item Description
Original 4x5" glossy w/action packed image at home plate of Campy attempting to tag out the runner who slides head first as the ball floats above him, and all is under the watchful eye of the umpire. Reverse has publication notations, ink stamp of "Fotografio Novoa" and team year/name, "1943-44 Marianao" Tigers. Front also has ink stamp "Novoa" below runner. Faint crease line across top above the image and really only seen in reflected light. Center of image has some marks from a sharp tipped tool used to enhance the image for publication and again, really only noticeable in reflected light. Fine. A great image prior to Campanella's debut in the Major Leagues. He would go on to become a superstar with the Dodgers (joining the team in 1948) as well as the first black catcher in the Major Leagues. A three time MLB MVP and 1955 World Series champion, he was inducted into the HOF in 1969. Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
