Item Description
12.75x15" thin artboard has pen and ink original art w/image area measuring 9.75x11.5". Art was created in 1975 and was penciled and inked by Michael Kaluta, a comic book artist and writer best-known for his acclaimed 1973-1975 12-issue adaptation of the pulp magazine hero "The Shadow" w/writer Dennis O'Neil for DC Comics. Given the characters' similar detective bkg., Batman appeared w/The Shadow in the 1970s, likely serving as a partial inspiration for this specialty piece featuring full body images of Batman running alongside The Shadow in the low-lying fog. The Shadow's coat flaps as he runs w/both guns drawn and Batman's cape billows as he runs along. Art has been signed "MW Kaluta" right of heroes, w/Kaluta adding "75" date. Art has .25" area of staining at top center and upper right has .25" square of tape residue/staining. Art also has square of slight darkening around art as matted and framed over the years. Lower left has slight moisture ripple, but this does not affect art. Bottom edge of fog area has two thin streaks of staining, also not affecting main image area of Batman or The Shadow. Art o/w remains clean and VF. Would make for wonderful display is matted and framed. A truly special and unique Kaluta piece featuring two of the all-time great characters of pulp magazine and comic book history.
