Item Description
13x16" sheet of animation paper has 4-5/8x8.75" image area done in pencil showing full body image of Superman in classic hands-on-hips pose, as seen in opening credits of the Fleischer Studios "Superman" cartoons distributed by Paramount Pictures in the early 1940s. Art is surrounded by numerous handwritten number notations in pencil, each indicating what color was to be applied where. Some of these numbers have handwritten notes, including "Ink Hair, Ink Of Features, Sepia Ink Face & Hands" and "Ink Rest Of Body - No Ink Modeling." Additionally, to right of art is handwritten color notes regarding the coloring of Superman's iconic "S" symbol. Below this is note reading "Oked By Dave," a reference to Fleischer Studios cartoon director and co-owner Dave Fleischer. Sheet has all over handling wear w/numerous small handling creases and some scattered small spots of soiling below art and at left, but image area remains clean and Exc. This is the photo example shown on pages 80 and 82 in Harry Matetsky's "The Adventures Of Superman Collecting" book. All Fleischer Superman art is rare and this is a truly exceptional example. See following item #2097. Franco Toscanini Collection.
