Item Description
Original cardboard box contains 13" tall jointed doll by Ideal Novelty & Toys Co. 1940. Box is rather generic in nature save for applied paper label on one end w/Ideal company name and information along w/classic image of Superman breaking chains at left. This label has moderate even aging w/some scattered creasing and insect damage to one corner, but all text and image remains complete. Label is VG. Box itself is aged and has some handling wear w/side panel creases and tape repair to one corner. Neat glue repair to 1.75" puncture on end panel opposite label. Fine overall. Box is very rare w/only a few examples known. This is the first example of this rare box we've offered in our 48 years. Doll features composition movable head and upper body while rest of body is wood and jointed. Aside from tiny 1/8" touch-up on left shoulder, rest is all original. Face retains its original layer of thin composition and has a few scattered hairline craze marks as is typical. Trace of wear w/some small scattered paint marks on legs and typical lt. paint wear at joints. Superman's "S" chest decal is 100% complete. Belt decal has some tiny edge nicks but is mostly intact, w/all text on back of belt present. Cape is original and complete and retains deep red color (usually found either missing, incomplete or faded). Exceptional condition example, makes for Exc. display. As nice as these come and a key piece for any Superman collection. Franco Toscanini Collection.
