Item Description
7.5" long hand-carved hard plastic prototype used in the final stages of creating Marx's "Tom Corbett Space Cadet Atomic Pistol/Flashlite." 1950s. This gun was produced for both Space Patrol and Tom Corbett Space Cadet and left grip has incised "Tom Corbett" name while right grip has partial "Space Cadet" name painted on. This shows moderate wear. Bottom of handle has "Erie - 5491 - 1-10-52" handwritten note in black ink, dating this prototype to 1952 and noting it was produced at Marx's Erie, PA. plant. Prototype has moving dial to adjust settings on side of gun but does not have "Super Beam Signal Ray" raised text that graced final product. End of dial has tip broken off. Prototype works and produces click noise when trigger is pulled. Prototype has some minor age fading but is VF overall. Most of the Marx prototypes offered in this auction were for unproduced items, whereas prototypes from production items are very rare and highly sought after. From the John Bowers Collection.
