Item Description
9" tall tin litho wind-up w/built-in key on back. Made in Germany for the English market, c. 1930. Thought to have been made by Saalheimer & Strauss, makers of the tin Mickey Mouse mechanical banks. Small text by key reads "By Exclusive Arrangement With Ideal Films Ltd. All Rights Reserved. Registered No. 508041." Bottom of Mickey's paint leg has small "Foreign" text. Mickey is depicted w/five fingers as opposed to the more commonly seen four fingers style. Die-cut eyes and wide smile reveal separate tin litho plate within Mickey's head, that when wound, moves up and down, giving the toy the appearance of moving eyes and mouth. Toy also revolves around as teeth move in and out. Toy has scattered wear w/traces of surface oxidation, mainly along crimped metal lines at neck, by hands and on pants legs. Shoes have some small scattered spots of oxidation. Backside of pants show obvious fade, w/red color having faded to yellow. Original rubber tail intact and still pliable. Working and Fine overall. Only a few examples of this toy are known to still exist, this being the only example we've offered in our 47 years, being the rarest of all Mickey Mouse wind-up toys. From the Maurice Sendak Collection and comes with COA.
