Item Description
All items in this lot are for the 1937 season featuring the league's three teams: Ciudad Trujillo, Aguilas Cibaenas and Estrellas Orientales. These teams featured major Latin American players as well as stars of the Negro Leagues. First item is 8x14" thin paper broadside from May 9th game between Ciudad and Estrellas. Includes line-up for each team in addition to text hyping the game w/mentions of players Satchel Paige, Cy Perkins, Herman Andrews, Cocaina Garcia and Rodolfo Fernandez. Broadside has been professionally paper backed. Moderated trace of aging w/some staining. VG. Next are 20 different score cards in two sizes: 4x6.5" and 4x10". Several different cover varieties w/either advertising or pitcher image. All have been completely and thoroughly filled out by the same spectator who attended all these games and documented each in detail. The smaller size cards have printed line-ups on back covers but the actual line-ups varied so some players are noted as such on the inside stats. Players listed include (in addition to those already noted on the broadside) Josh Gibson, Cool Papa Bell, Silvio Garcia, Lazaro Salazar, Martin Dihigo, Luis Tiant Sr., Chester Brewer, George Scales, Alejandro Oms, Julio Rojo, Tetelo Vargas and more. All have moderate wear/aging but are overall Fine. In addition to these, the same spectator compiled an additional 19 "Homemade" score cards on paper sheets. In total this lot includes detailed stats for 39 games from the 1937 season. An invaluable reference to these incredible match-ups compiled by an enthusiastic fan as they were happening. A truly one of a kind collection. From the Richard Merkin Collection and come with Hake's COA.
