Item Description
Set of four 8.25x10.5" glossy color silver gelatin/silver bromide press photos featuring Richard Avedon's (1923–2004) iconic and psychedelic portraits of The Beatles, each portrait being heavily solarized w/vivid colors. These photos were taken mid to late 1967 for "Look" magazine and "Stern" magazine in Europe, w/the copyright actually assigned to NEMS Enterprises, Limited, the Beatles management company run by Brian Epstein.   Both publications offered large posters of all four Beatles to subscribers for a nominal charge. Reverse of each has stamped text reading "© Photograph By Avedon - All Rights Reserved." Beside this is a "75" grease pencil date that matches Avedon's handwriting. These 1975 dated color Beatles portraits comprise the first and only actual true photographs ever issued in set form by Avedon for these Beatles images. The later 1990 issue of the limited signed and numbered editions totaled nine portfolio sets and issued as a mechanical photographic printing process known as dye-transfer prints, which is not a true photo process. The collection that Avedon himself presented to the University of Arizona at Tucson does not contain any color images from the 1967 Beatles London photo session. Photos have some lt. corner bumps but are Exc. overall. Iconic psychedelic Beatles photos.
