Item Description
8x10" thick cardboard mount w/7.25x8.5" glossy photo. Great image of eight players in uniform, ballboy and manager who holds flag reading "Yara B.B.C. Caibarien." Bottom of mount has photography studio imprint "Otero Y Colominas" and lower right of photo is signed in ink by the photographer. Reverse has additional studio imprints and information. Otero y Colominas was a commercial photography firm based at 32 San Rafel in Havana, Cuba during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Along with other early photojournalists, the firm worked to document Havana at peace as well at war, including the Cuban War of Independence from 1895-1898. Moderate wear/aging to the mount including some moisture staining along lower right. Photo itself has aging and scattered light stress lines but these are really only visible in reflected light. Image remains bold and sharp. Overall VG. Among the earliest "Quality" Cuban baseball photos we have seen. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
