Item Description
Toy consists of five-piece tin litho toy w/built-in key w/overall size of 5.5x8.5x9" tall. c. 1930s. Similar character design to Mickey Mouse but w/longer, rat-like features. Marx produced three different versions of this toy. This is variety produced w/o marquee and mice band members include piano player, drummer, dancer and conductor. The piano unit is nicely detailed w/images of mice on all sides but back; the pianist and drummer's chairs have images of cats as does the drum head. Back of piano has "Marx Merrymakers" name and company logo. Toy works and features great action w/all four of the mice moving as if playing instruments and dancing. Toy has scattered paint nicks/scratches and moderate fading to red color accents on top of piano, dancer's chest, drum rim and lt. fading to other red areas. Overall appearance remains totally bright and glossy. Still a Fine example of a classic wind-up for display. From the Maurice Sendak Collection and comes with COA.
