Item Description
Offered here is a custom-made Superman suit that was personally owned and worn by Kirk Alyn, the actor who portrayed Superman in the 1948 serial of the same name and its 1950 sequel "Atom Man Vs. Superman." Shirt/one-piece (w/snap button fasteners at crotch) measures 30" long and 19" wide at shoulders. 7.25x10.25" embroidered "S" symbol on chest. Attached at shoulders of shirt is 53" long cape w/7x10.75" embroidered "S" symbol. Drawstring pants measure 42" long (including fabric stirrups). Comes w/pair of 14.5" wide red shorts w/fabric belt thread through loops w/2.75" dia. painted metal buckle. Only thing missing are Superman's red boots. Comes w/March, 1979 issue #20 of "Starlog" magazine w/"Kirk Alyn: Superman Remembers" article which includes great color photo of elder Alyn entering an old-style phone booth w/a Superman shirt and cape that bear striking resemblance to outfit offered here. Also comes w/letter signed by Alyn in black felt tip pen stating transfer of ownership and another letter from man Alyn gave suit to, transferring ownership to a third party. These letters are folded and Alyn-signed letter shows moderate wear though his signature remains unaffected. Comes w/a series of photocopied photos showing Alyn presenting the suit to its new owner. Costume has some scattered wear w/some faint staining at shirt's collar, some scattered staining to back of one leg, scattered lt. aging and small snag on back of shorts. Belt has some scattered dust soiling. Buckle has some small paint flakes to edges and is Fine/VF. Cape has tiny spot of staining but is o/w Exc. Rest of outfit is Fine-VF overall. Great Superman outfit from the first to don it on the Silver Screen.
