Item Description
In 1955, the Brooklyn Dodgers led the league in both runs scored and fewest runs allowed. In the 1955 World Series, they beat their rivals, the New York Yankees. It was the Dodgers' first and only World Series championship won while located in Brooklyn. This season was a culmination of the careers of many legendary Dodger players. Catcher Roy Campanella won the 1955 NL MVP award, his third in five years. Center fielder Duke Snider led the league in runs batted in and was second in the MVP voting. The pitching staff was anchored by Don Newcombe, who was 20-5. It was the first time a black pitcher had won 20 games in a season. 22-year old Johnny Podres was only 9-10 but became the hero of the 1955 World Series by shutting out the Yankees in the seventh game. Offered here is a Spalding Official National League Warren C. Giles ball w/21 signatures from the 1955 Brooklyn Dodgers. Signatures are in blue ink. Key players include - Hall of Famers Manager Walt Alston (who has signed the sweet spot, adding "1955 Champs" inscription), Roy Campanella, Pee Wee Reese, and Duke Snider. Other players include - Don Newcombe, Don Hoak, Russ Meyer, Carl Furillo, Jim Gilliam, Gil Hodges, Sandy Amoros, Jake Pitler, Frank Kellert, Ed Roebuck, Carl Erskine, Clem Labine, Rube Walker, Don Zimmer, Don Bessent, Karl Spooner and Johnny Podres. Ball is evenly aged w/some scattered dust soiling. Some signatures are a bit faded but for the most part remain distinct. Fine overall. Comes with Hake's COA and JSA LOA.
