Item Description
See following item #1824. Lot of two pieces of original art by Jankus. First artboard measures 12.5x16" and features highly detailed scratchboard illustration for "Shayol" sci-fi/fantasy magazine Summer, 1979 issue. Art accompanied "Horror, We Got" story by Harold Waldrop and features grouping of Cossacks leering at Jewish man w/knife. A nude couple engage in oral sex in foreground while a small demon watches, pleasuring himself. At upper right there is a skeleton holding a Star of David-tipped scepter and a scroll and hourglass appear nearby. Lower margin has penciled notes including story title, author's name and date. Exc. Second artboard (from same publication) measures 15x19.5" and features montage scene wonderfully rendered in pencil. Art accompanied "Shine Of The Times" Stephen King interview and shows main child character Danny in hallway of the Overlook Hotel, w/party streamers floating by from down the hall. Shadow of croquet mallet his father Jack Torrance used to menace him is seen on the wall. Additional images at top reveal the strange dog suit-wearing hotel guest, the spectral form of the nude female guest of Room 237, wasps and evergreen branches from the hedge-maze. Additional portrait of King at upper right. Lower margin has penciled notes indicating illustration was provided for then untitled interview. Margins show some aging/wear w/three 1.5" strips of tape at top margin, but art area would easily mat out for an Exc. appearance. Art comes w/a reading copy of the actual magazine they appeared in. Interesting Shining art, just a couple of years after the best-selling book was published.
