Item Description
March-April 1950 cover for last issue in series before it became “Haunt Of Fear”. 21.5x28” high quality wood frame has double archival mat w/13.75x19.75” opening. Dramatic scene in India ink has Buckskin Kid punching outlaw in cave as woman tied up w/ropes in foreground sits next to lit dynamite powder keg looks at viewer. Signed in ink “Johnny Craig” at lower right. Issue number, date, and “In This Issue” text are hand inked, rest of logo and text are clean photo stats. Art is NM. Johnny Craig (1926-2001) began working in comics in 1940 under Harry Lampert, and went to EC in 1947. He did many classic horror covers for EC, edited, and created Drusilla. When censorship caused EC to fold he got into advertising. In the 1960s he did a few stories for Warren, but is most well known for his EC work. Historically, we feel this is Craig’s best pre-horror cover. Ready for display. From the Robert M. Overstreet Collection. Comes w/COA.
