"Sea Creatures" were developed as an action figure line in 1985 for Sanrio (currently known for Hello Kitty). The prototype figures are approximately 6" tall and were each based on humanoid versions of coral, an eel, a hammerhead shark, an octopus, a piranha and a barracuda with a crab claw. Each figure was designed with armor and a child size ring that would contain some sort of holographic image. Some were designed with an action feature and/or came with a weapon. Most likely created to compete with The Thundercats and Tigersharks lines from LJN. However these figures never saw production. The prototype figure in this lot is "Ko-Ral" based on coral. There is a complete figure made of resin. He has separate armored guards on his shins, a sword with seaweed detailing and the original wax and resin sculpt for the sword. He has a resin pistol. There are two child size ring bases included. There is also a front torso/head piece with a rubber "coral" head piece that was to have a button that would give it a "growing" action. The final piece is an extra left leg painted sample in red. The legs are not attached to the figure and there is a chip missing at bottom of trunk area. Items will display Exc. Also included is a color copy of the original concept color artwork with a few handwritten notations. Sheet folded and has creases as a result. Fine. This item is truly unique and one of a kind, anything that could be called a defect is from the creative process of action figure design as it was in the 80s.
