Item Description
Lot of 18 promotional "Dino-Riders" items. Lot includes a 10.25x11.5" "Dino-Riders Licensing Stylebook" binder w/numerous pages of artwork, story, designs and illustrations of toys; 15.25x18.25" framed animation cel from the "Dino-Riders" cartoon that shows two Rulon Pteradons landing on base; "Tyco 1989" toy catalog w/16 pages of "Dino-Riders" toy photos; VHS tape of first episode of "Dino-Riders" cartoon; the first issue of the "Dino-Rider" comic book published by Marvel Comics; one of the mini comic books that came w/the toys themselves; a packet of full color pages showing a proposed Japanese manga (comic book) treatment for the series; and a copy of "Toyland - The High-Stakes Game Of The Toy Industry" which was written by Sydney Ladensohn Stern and Ted Schoenhaus and was published by Contemporary Books in 1990. This book in part tells the story of the evolution of the "Dino-Riders" line and mentions Lee Volpe several times. Rest of lot consists of 10 Polaroid photos, four of which show a proposed Rulon version of the popular Diplodocus toy that never came to be. Other pictures show the "Brainbox" apparatus on an unfinished Tyrannosaurus and sculpts for the Torosaurus toy's head and armor. Varying degrees of handling wear/aging, most are VF overall. An interesting insight into the history of "Dino-Riders." From the personal collection of Lee Volpe, Tyco Toy’s Manager, Director, and VP of New Product Development (1982–1994) who was involved from the beginning of the development of Dino-Riders, Garfield telephones and several other Tyco toys.
