Item Description
18x24" cardboard poster for June 30-July 3, 1961 concert series that took place at Newport, RI. This is a rare promotional poster from the 1961 Music At Newport fest (not to be confused w/the 1961 Newport Jazz Festival, which was cancelled after a riot at the 1960 Festival that required the National Guard to restore order) that featured headliner Judy Garland, Louis Armstrong, Count Basie, John Coltrane, Sarah Vaughan, Duke Ellington, Oscar Peterson, Dave Brubeck, Quincy Jones and many others. It was a triumphant performance for Garland, who had never performed outdoors during the daytime. It was her first appearance at the festival, and the singer and actress drew an audience of 6,000 people. Poster has small .5" piece missing from lower left corner and scattered aging/corner tip wear. Fine.
