Item Description
Offered here is a 3-3/8" long fossilized tooth of a Spinosaurus (meaning "spine lizard"), a genus of theropod dinosaur which lived in what is now North Africa during the Cretaceous Period, about 112 to 97 million years ago. Spinosaurus may be the largest of all known carnivorous dinosaurs, even larger than Tyrannosaurus and Giganotosaurus. Estimates published in 2005 and 2007 suggest that it was 41' to 59' in length and 7.7 to 23 tons in weight. The skull was long and narrow like that of a modern crocodilian and filled w/straight conical teeth that lacked serrations. Spinosaurus is thought to have eaten fish and evidence suggests that it lived both on land and in water like a modern crocodilian. This specimen was excavated south of Taouz in the Moroccan Sahara region. Most of the tooth's enamel is nicely preserved, though the tip is missing, rounded from wear that occured during the dinosaur's life. A great chance to own a tooth from one of the largest predators to ever roam the planet.
