Item Description
This unique toy was most likely created at the Erie, PA Marx factory using a standard production "Speed Boy 4" windup motorcycle toy. Marx first obtained a license to produce Disney toys in 1936 and this most certainly dates from that time period. Hand painted tin toy is 9.5" long, has built-in key and works. The base toy was totally customized for this version including hand painted text on sides of tank "Mickey Mouse 1" and on back of the cart "Mickey Mouse Delivery" along w/"Marx" logo. Further and more extensive customization includes a totally crafted dimensional head, more pronounced and larger shoes formed in the metal and a reduction to the width of the arms to make them skinnier. As is to be expected, toy has all over trace of paint wear w/scattered flakes. Overall appearance remains bright and clean w/vibrant color. Fine. An incredible prototype further enhanced by being of the most recognizable and beloved comic character of all time. An absolute must have for the serious collector of Disneyana, Marx and wind-up toys.
