Item Description
From same set as #1083. Glossy photo front w/text below portrait "Mc. Key Base Ball." Card has emulsion issues on and around the image resulting in noticeably lighter areas but image remains clear and distinct. A rarely seen card in any condition and a slightly higher SGC example (SGC 30 GOOD 2) sold in our March 2012 auction for $15,600. A key card in this set. James Raleigh "Biz" Mackey came to be regarded as black baseball's premier catcher in the late 1920s and early 1930s. He is among the Negro League's all-time leaders in total bases, RBIs and slugging percentage. He played for the Indianapolis ABC's, New York Lincoln Giants, Hilldale Daisies, Philadelphia Royal Giants, Philadelphia Stars, Washington and Baltimore Elite Giants, and Newark Dodgers/Eagles. He was inducted into the National Baseball HOF in 2006.
