Item Description
From same set as #1079. Card front reads "Santa Clara B.B.C. H. Johnson-Infielder." Slight margin trim but front remains clean and image is bold. A star in the Negro Leagues, he played catcher and outfielder and was one of the league's foremost power hitters in the 1920s. During his career he played for several teams including the KC Monarchs, Harrisburg Giants and Baltimore Black Sox. In the first Negro World Series, Johnson hit .296 and delivered the winning double in the finale. He was also (as this card reflects) part of arguably the greatest Cuban Winter League team ever. Designated by SGC as being from the "Richard Merkin Collection" and comes with Hake's COA.
