Item Description
As rare as this postcard is, by sheer coincidence, earlier this year another example (in similar condition) was offered at auction and sold for $9,988. Previously cataloged as c. 1928, this card has lightly inked date at top left which appears to be 1926. 3-1/8x5.25" picturing 14 men in uniforms, one man in suit and bat boy. The highlight being HOF members Martin Dihigo and Jud Wilson shown side by side, second and third from the left, Dihigo has his arm around Wilson. Also pictured are Negro League players Oscar Levis and Julio Rojo. All four played for the Havana Lions during the late 1920s and both Levis and Rojo are wearing "Leones" lettered uniforms while Dihigo wears a different Havana uniform w/just the letter "H." All others including Wilson wear uniforms w/letter "G." Reverse has some writing, aging, two .5" spots of paper from mounting and 1" strip of clear tape at top center to repair a tear. This tear is evident on the front as are a pair of 1/8" insect holes, both appear on player to the right of Dihigo. Other lt. aging and margin wear but image still very nice overall. Good. Rare and historic featuring two of the greatest players in Negro League history. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
