Item Description
2.5x3x1.5" deep cardboard box includes "Jack Armstrong" return address but a square of cardboard is off upper left of box from opening it. Good. This was an immensely popular war years 1942 premium and the primary item is a wooden replica of the famous Norden Bombsight constructed of wood 2.5" tall by 3.5" long by 1-3/8" deep. The body of the piece is covered by a paper label with five simulated gauges and dials captioned for example "Altitude Adjuster...Numbers In Thousands Of Feet." On the narrow end is a green wooden revolving cover which allows the loading of three red wooden bombs, each 7/8" long. Another edge of the piece has a green wooden viewing tube and when looked into there are a pair of cross hairs over a mirror which reflects whatever is below the hole on the underside of the device. As typical, there is some silvering loss but images can still be easily seen. The bomb launching is achieved by turning the green wooden revolving cover to drop each of the three bombs individually. The item came with an "Official Instruction Manual" intended to be cut apart into 15 targets. However, this lot holds combination of two manuals with total of 21 cut outs. These are: Destroyer (3), Merchantman (6), Oil Tanker (4), Heavy Cruiser (2), Battleship (4) and Aircraft Carrier (2). All are neatly cut. Bombsight and bombs are Mint.
