Item Description
Three shrink wrapped Sunday comic strip pages from 1905 have approximate image areas of 14.5x18.75”. May 14 “Rocky Mountain News” page by Opper and Dirks has Sy and Maud the Mule involved w/the Captain And The Kids. Next page has top strip w/Swinnerton character stereotypical black man Sam laughing at cartoonist Dirks who is drawing the Captain And The Kids. Bottom strip is Opper’s Maud the Mule. Third page features Sam and Captain And The Kids by Swinnerton and Dirks. Bottom strip is Swinnerton’s Little Jimmy. Trace of lt. aging. Near Exc. as shrink wrapped. Last item is July 26, 1914 “Fun Section of The New York World” 9x10.25” newsprint insert w/eight pages. Center section has three panel color comic strip signed “O.M.” by Otto Messmer, who would go on to create Felix The Cat for Pat Sullivan in 1919. Issue also contains “Cross-Word Puzzle No.29”. The very first cross-word puzzle began in this publication Dec. 21,1913. Scattered edge wear and aging. Good. Four unique pieces of comic strip history.
