Item Description
1.25” button with no backpaper or maker’s name as issued. Button shows Howdy as he looked when this button was offered March 23, 1948 as part of the Howdy Doody For President campaign. The show at that time was carried on only five east coast stations and the offer was made a total of 7 times. NBC was astonished by 60,000 requests that poured into their New York City mail room. The incredible response to this button offer inspired national firms like Colgate, Continental Baking, Ovaltine and Mars Candy to quickly sign on as show sponsors. A few months later, Howdy was re-designed to the look we know today. Trivial and normal age on metal reverse. Cello is essentially Mint. Plate example from Collectible Pin-Back Buttons section TV #1061. Comes with Hake's COA.
