Item Description
Buttons are 7/8” to 1.75”. Pocket mirror “The Allies” in choice color is 2.75”. This has a few tiny dots on extreme right rim edge but still displays with great color and full gloss. Among the buttons the more interesting are 1.75” from the “Reading” railroad for “Employee’s Patriotic Demonstration” with 1917 date. Next are a pair of 1.25” “Authorized Solicitor” buttons for the “United War Work Campaign” and one of these includes a serial number. Next is one related to women’s suffrage and it reads “Women’s Apparel Unit/Women’s Overseas Hospitals, U.S.A.” At the Women’s Suffrage Convention of December 1917 this plan was presented to the convention by Mrs. Charles Tiffany. The group gave $125,000. for a hospital in France and their members sailed February 1918 to establish a hospital for victims in the war zone including many victims of chemical gas attacks. The button reading “Uncle Sam’s Saturday Service League” is somewhat flattened but clean. All other items are Exc. to Mint with the exception of the minor age on the mirror. A nice group with many rarities.
