Item Description
Sarah Young followed her home regiment from Ithaca New York in 1862 and was assigned as a Volunteer Army Nurse in field hospitals. She served until the end of the war becoming “Beloved And Famous Throughout The Union Army.” President Lincoln toured her hospital just a week before his assassination. She published a book about her army life in 1897. This is a real photo 7/8” button from the time of her death in 1908. Reverse has lightly stained Western Badge backpaper. Spring pin holds worn but complete fabric ribbon. The celluloid itself is Exc. and displays Mint. Only example we’ve seen. Also see trade card for Dr. Mary Walker #14.
