Item Description
These are four early and extremely limited issues between 1897 and 1908. Each badge is 2-5/8" to 3.25" tall. All four are brass with enamel accents on the third one. Each piece is divided into a number of segments by links. Text on the first reads "125 Miles Special/To Atlantic City And Return/July 4 1897/Continental Wheelmen Philada." Design includes spread wing eagle with Washington portrait at center. NM luster. Second reads "Westminster-Chases/100 Mile/Century Cycling Club Of Maryland/Survivor/Oct. 19 '02." Light age but still Exc. Third piece has pair of hand engraved bars at top reading "John Schual/Racycle." The suspended piece reads "Half Century/Balto Lafayette Wheelman Oct. 4 1908." The last piece is entirely hand engraved and reads "C.H. Landis/Frederick/MD/Century Run To Baltimore, MD. 1908." Minor wear, mostly on the reverse, to what is perhaps gold plating.
