©1935 Fleischaker & Baum. 8.5x17x5" deep thin cardboard box has wonderful lid art of Popeye standing on dock w/crate of spinach behind him. Lid main panel is from the original issued box this doll came in, though it has been attached to a newly crafted box lid, and box bottom is also newly crafted and well done so all appears as if it is the original box the doll came in. Box contains 17" tall stuffed fabric doll w/cloth head (also produced in a variety w/a rubber head, see item #2193) and composition shoes w/wooden corncob pipe in mouth and glass buttons. Sailor hat has oilcloth brim. Printed anchor "tattoos" on arms. Original string tag designed like spinach crate w/"Spinach That Makes Pop-eye Strong" text on one side and image of Popeye on reverse saying "Blow Me Down! It's The Spinach That Makes Me Strong!" Tag has tape repair to string hole and scattered creasing. VG/Fine. Doll has lt., even aging and is o/w clean and VF. From the Carl Lobel Collection.
