Item Description
1.5” with unusual pin and backpaper by “Novelty Button Co. Canton, O.” Reverse has small 1/8” cello split by the collet but it does not cause any rim bump. Pictured is McKinley on his front porch in a bent wood chair dressed in top coat and top hat holding a large newspaper on his lap as he stares at the camera. The surrounding text is faint but still readable on close inspection. The piece is titled below “McKinley At Home.” The extensive text around the upper rim of the button reads “I Believe It Is A Good Deal Better To Open Up The Mills Of The United States To The Labor Of America Than To Open The Mints Of The United States To The Silver Of The World.” We emphasize that the text is faint and must be viewed very closely to be legible however, the piece does remain totally clean with full gloss. This is listed as Hake #292 with 2004 guide value of $600.00. Sen. Charles Dick Collection.
