Item Description
7x10.25x5.25" tall telephone by Tyco Toys, Inc. 1986. Instead of Garfield's usual orange and black coloring, this one has been painted in a metallic gold and black coloring, and has a small metal plate hanging under his chin on a string. This plate reads "250000 – 11.20.86" indicating that this was the 250,000th unit produced. Phone features the finished Garfield design as opposed to the design seen in item #1800 and features working spring-mechanism that opens Garfield's closed eyes when the handset is picked up, his lower eyelids closing again when handset is replaced. Complete phone buttons/features on underside of handset. Phone jack has been cut off, but phone is o/w Exc. One of a kind presentation piece. From the personal collection of Lee Volpe, Tyco Toy’s Manager, Director, and VP of New Product Development (1982 –1994) who was involved from the beginning of the development of Dino-Riders, Garfield telephones and several other Tyco toys.
