6.75x11x4.5" tall fully functional prototype telephone for eventual Garfield phone made by Tyco Toys, Inc. in the 1980s. This early prototype differs from the final realized product as this design is closer to how Garfield appeared shortly after his 1978 debut and Garfield's face looks to his left. The finished product featured the more familiar design in use since the 1980s and featured Garfield looking straight ahead. This prototype has been hand-painted and features working spring-mechanism that opens Garfield's half-closed eyes when the handset is picked up. This function sticks a bit but o/w works. Phone buttons/features on underside of handset. Scattered lt. wear to paint, w/some orange paint flaking on coiled stretch phone cord that ends in phone jack. Open bottom. Telephone works and calls can be made on this prototype. VF.
