Item Description
4.5x6.5x20.5" box holds 18.5" tall Effanbee doll "Sold Under License Of Bob Smith, Creator Of Howdy Doody." c. 1948-1951. Lid has repeated western design and box end has 3.5x6" full-color paper label picturing Howdy within Effanbee heart symbol and inscription "America's Favorite Cowboy." Label has original packaging ink stamps "641" and "Blue" as well as original store price sticker. Lid has tiny wear at corner tips but box overall is tight and Fine/VF. Doll is scarce smaller version w/felt cowboy hat. Nicely detailed w/"Howdy Doody" neckerchief and leatherette belt w/metal buckle, head is painted composition, as are hands. Doll has sleep eyes that function perfectly. Suede-like cowboy boots w/leatherette trim on fabric feet. Scattered faint staining to pants. Cowboy hat shows moderate wear and has some loss of shape. VG/Fine. Head has some scattered aging w/typical crazing and a few color touch-up to lips/teeth that blend well. VF.
