Item Description
Published Sept.20, 1956 in the “NY World Telegram” newspaper. 14.75x23.25” vintage wood frame has art board w/13.25x16.25” image area in India ink w/litho crayon shading. Top has pencil title “Down The Drain” w/art of Brooklyn Bum digging sand out of hourglass and shoveling it in face of Milwaukee Braves mascot. Lower right has ink inscription “Willard Mullin-With Best Wishes To Mrs. Anna Wooley…A True Dodger Fan/.” Non art areas have pencil printing notes, art itself is Exc. Reverse side has original cardboard backing w/several Mullin clippings glued in place, including this cartoon as published. Nice example by the “20th Century Dean Of Sports Cartoonists” and Brooklyn Bum creator.
