Item Description
Wonderful 1921 tin litho wind-up by Strauss. 4x11.5x4" deep cardboard box has scenes on five sides. Lid has image of Santa and his sleigh flying over the earth in moonlight, front panel has art of children decorating tree as Santa watches along with children and dog looking out window at Santa, back panel has same art, and side panels each feature image of Santa getting ready to go down chimney with smiling moon in background. Images are printed off register and box has some aging and dust soil with .5" tear at upper right corner of front panel along with 1.5" diagonal crease. Fine. 11.25" long tin litho wind-up toy has Santa in sleigh decorated with holly and mistletoe with originals string reins attached to two reindeer on front with metal bells under their noses. Side panels of sled have art of Santa putting out toys under tree near fireplace as two sleeping children dream about Santa. Back of sled has text for Strauss Mechanical Toys with Ferdinand Strauss Corp. NY address. When key is wound, reindeer and Santa move up and down as toy moves forward and bells jingle. Small front wheel and post attachment on front are professional replacements. Lt. wear with a few tiny scratches but overall toy is VF/Exc. Wonderful detail and superb design.
