Item Description
While this book in and of itself is rare, adding to its value from a collector's standpoint is the fact that it features the character "Sunflower" which was deleted from the film by Disney. Large format Whitman No. 950 © 1940 is 13x13". Complete/unused. Card stock cover and four interior pages, all with exceptional punch-outs. Inside front cover text includes "Instructions For Setting Up And Putting Into Action The Panorama Of Mickey's Orchestra And The Ballet Of Comic Dancers." Punch-outs include Ben Ali Gator, Mlle. Upanova, Bacchus And Jacchus, Hyacinth Hippo, Elephant Dancer, Baby Pegasus, Zeus, Melinda The Centaurette, Brutus The Centaur, Mickey As Sorcerer's Apprentice, others. The most interesting punch-out is for "Sunflower" which depicts a young black centaurette eating a slice of watermelon. Starting with the 1960 theatrical re-release of the film, Sunflower was cut from the movie. In all of the various re-releases on video cassette, laser disc and DVD, she has remained missing. She originally appeared in the pastoral symphony section of the film and was featured in three shots performing menial duties for the white female centaurettes. Cover has trace of age toning/dust soiling. Lt. wear along extreme edges. Some loose perforations on front/back and two cover pieces have a few small tears but all remains intact. Cover Fine. Contents Exc. One of the top Disney punch-out books in both design and rarity. Our last copy sold for $1,092.
