Item Description
c.late 1940s. Flannel jersey has felt team name, patch and number. Jersey is 31" tall with team name in Spanish “Cerveceria Caracas” on front which has zipper with nicely designed Lions logo patch on left shoulder and “Universal Sports Corporation” label inside collar. Pants are 21" long with button fly and “Spalding” label inside waist area. Jersey has trace of lt. aging but overall VF. Pants have some tanning, mostly noticeable at knee areas, likely from sliding into bases. VG. The team began in 1942 and still plays in the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League and have won 17 championship titles, more than any other team to date in Venezuelan baseball. The league was organized in 1945 and formally registered in 1946 with its first tournament on January 3, 1946. It is likely that this uniform was worn during their championship year of 1948-1949. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake’s COA.
